Yesterday: A Confusing Mess

The idea of Yesterday was mildly interesting at best, but the plot and characters were sloppy and shallow, leading to a flop of a film.

Highlights: 

• You get to listen to the Beatles!

• The dialogue is often funny

• Kate McKinnon is wonderful

Lowlights: 

• The plot is sloppy and unrealistic

• Feels like a giant Ed Sheeran promo

• White text spoiler: Bringing John Lennon back? Really? Why?? He would hate this movie...

Prepare to leave the theater with many, many questions. My biggest peeve about Yesterday is how unrealistic it is. However, it's not the convenience of his sudden solitary knowledge of the Beatles' music that bothers me but how unrealistically the characters act. Most actions are completely fantastical, as if Yesterday were an idyllic dream the writer had and immediately wrote down without making any changes. Sloppy, stupid, and shallow, Yesterday was at best funny and at worst a complete waste of 117 minutes.

Did you watch the movie? Do you want more? Check out the Beatles! Their music was probably the best part of this movie, so do yourself a favor and listen to them. Even if you're familiar with their music, the Beatles are always a treat!
