With plot twists and fascinating characters, Knives Out is a film that doesn't fail to entertain or surprise.
Highlights:
Easy to follow yet unpredictable
Good cast
Great acting by lead Ana de Armas
Lowlights:
Lengthy
Silly at times
Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig)'s accent is annoying
Though at first I thought it looked silly, Knives Out captivated me with its intensity and plot twists. The characters are thoughtfully formed, though at times the situations and actions of characters are not believable and come off as ridiculous. However, this somehow works with the intentionally outrageous humor of the film itself. Writer and director Rian Johnson does a wonderful job of constructing a plot involving many characters and stories that intrigues instead of confuses, forming a film that will trick you, surprise you, and twist with how you perceive the truth.
Did you watch the movie? Do you want more? Check out Brick, a 2005 mystery film. Also written and directed by Johnson, Brick follows a teenager Brian (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who avenges his ex-girlfriend's death by solving the murder himself. Though not rated as highly as Knives Out, both are similar films by Johnson and Brick will most likely be intriguing as well.
