Just Mercy is an important film that impressively balances justice with sorrow, leaving the audience with a feeling of dismay for the past and hope for the future.
Highlights:
Great performance from Michael B. Jordan
Important story
Good balance of positivity and negativity
Lowlights:
Upsetting at times
Lots of legal scenes
A bit slow
Just Mercy has a good balance of hurt and hope. While telling a devastating but important story about racism in the south, the film incorporated difficult, important moments of injustice while showing what dedication can do even in the face of uncertainty. Though the movie was adapted from a book, the writer did a good job of incorporating uncomfortable moments well, telling the story of how racism is still fighting against justice. Overall, I appreciated the blunt honesty of the movie and the hopeful wake-up call it provokes.
Did you watch the movie? Do you want more? Check out Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy, the true book that inspired the movie. Written by the star lawyer, the book Just Mercy will without a doubt shine as bright as the film.
