Dark Waters is a disturbingly true story that is an important reminder of the greed of corporate America.
Highlights:
An important story
Captivating
Good balance between law and personal scenes
Lowlights:
A bit slow at times
Lots of law talk
Seems overly dramatic at times (though it's all true)
Dark Waters is an important movie. The story of how corporate lawyer Rob Bilott (Mark Ruffalo) worked to expose DuPont, who had been knowingly poisoning people for decades, Dark Waters reminds us that big corporations are not on our side. Though filled with lots of legal speak and work, the film does a good job of integrating enough personal information about Bilott to be interesting. You won't leave the theater feeling uplifted, but Dark Waters is an essential reminder that companies and even the government often work for their own self-interest.
Did you watch the movie? Do you want more? Check out the article that inspired the movie, "The Lawyer Who Became DuPont's Worst Nightmare" by Nathaniel Rich of the New York Times. Though it almost exactly follows the movie, it's worth seeing the story in a journalistic setting, to remind you that it's all true.
